Washington HC Jedd Fisch Gives Crucial Demond Williams Jr. Injury Update Ahead of Purdue
Backup Elijah Brown is taking first-team reps after Williams left the Iowa loss with a rib injury, and Fisch said he would be surprised if Williams plays.
Backup quarterback Elijah Brown is taking first-team repetitions for the Washington Huskies, positioning him to start Friday's game at Purdue as starting quarterback Demond Williams Jr. remains sidelined.
Williams Jr. suffered a significant rib injury during the second quarter of the 41-24 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday, October 9. The quarterback left the field after taking a hit while diving for extra yards.
The Stanford transfer impressed after replacing the injured starter, completing 72% of his 39 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns against Iowa. The Huskies outscored the Hawkeyes 24-14 with Brown in the game.
Fisch designated Williams Jr. as day-to-day after the quarterback missed Monday practice while Brown took all starting reps. The Huskies are set to fly to Indiana on Thursday for their Friday night matchup at Ross-Ade Stadium.
Coach Fisch remains cautious about Williams' medical outlook, saying "I'm not under the impression that I think he'll be playing this week based upon where he's at physically." Medical clearance will determine any potential return.
