Saab Unveils Optionally Crewed CB90 CX Ahead of Euronaval 2026
The optionally crewed platform adds more than 50% payload capacity and comes in ISR, anti-ship and short-range air-defense versions.
- Swedish defense company Saab introduced the Combat Boat 90 Capability X , a new-generation naval platform designed for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance , anti-ship warfare, and short-range air defense operations.
- Anders Hellman, head of Saab's business unit Docksta, described the CB90 CX as a response to a changing maritime security environment where naval forces need to detect threats earlier and distribute capability across more platforms.
- With an overall length of 18 m, the CB90 CX increases payload capacity by more than 50% compared to previous models, rising from around 3 tonnes to "well beyond" 5 tonnes, according to Hellman.
- The platform offers three configurations: an ISR variant with an 11 m mast and Saab Sea Giraffe 1X radar, an anti-ship model, and a SHORAD version armed with a 30 mm gun, all supporting uncrewed operations.
- Sweden has 36 of the boats on order, and Saab is building a new production site at Docksta to double capacity and meet anticipated demand for the platform.
