Here are the top 'rattiest' US cities for 2026, according to Orkin
Orkin said the rankings are based on new residential rodent service calls, with Los Angeles holding No. 1 for the second year in a row.
For the second consecutive year, Los Angeles topped Orkin's 2026 list of the 'rattiest cities' in America, ending Chicago's decade-long winning streak that began in 2015.
The 125-year-old pest control company Orkin determined rankings by tracking new residential rodent treatments from August 9, 2025, to August 9, 2026, capturing year-long nationwide data.
"There's no single type of city or climate that's immune to rodent pressure," said Shannon Sked, National Technical Director at Orkin. Rodents thrive where food, water, and shelter are abundant.
California leads the nation with four cities in the top 50, while Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington, DC, complete the top five; the top four positions remain unchanged from last year.
Orkin recommends the 'GNAW' acronym to reduce infestation risk: Guard entry points by sealing gaps, Never leave food unattended, Avoid clutter, and Watch for droppings or gnaw marks.
