Three swimmers rushed to hospital after incident near Clacton Pier as UK heatwave continues
Ambulance crews said three people were brought ashore after getting into difficulty in the water and were taken to hospital for further care.
Emergency teams descended on Clacton beach on Saturday after the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance landed near Clacton Pier to assist with a major incident shortly after 4.30 pm.
Ambulance crews reported that three people had got into difficulty in the water and were brought ashore, requiring medical treatment before transfer to hospital.
Several ambulances and police vehicles attended the scene, while authorities closed off a stretch of the seafront, causing significant delays getting in and out of the town.
Essex Police thanked members of the public for following instructions during the response, though emergency services have yet to confirm details about the incident or any casualties.
It is thought that helicopters eventually left the beach and headed to a London hospital, while emergency services remain available for further comment on the incident.
