Han Masterclass Powers Understrength Venom to Victory over Spirit
Han Xu scored 26 points and Geelong overcame a 450-game experience gap to rally past winless Bendigo.
On Monday, the Geelong Venom defeated the winless Bendigo Spirit 77-70 at Selkirk Stadium in Ballarat, relying on Chinese superstar Han Xu to overcome a significant experience deficit.
With Opal Maddy Rocci and Bec Cole sidelined, the Venom faced a more than 450-game experience hole in their roster depth.
Han Xu tallied 26 points and seven rebounds, while captain Alex Sharp registered 17 boards and eight points in the victory.
Bendigo coach Kennedy Kereama attributed the loss to fatigue and foul trouble, noting "we were losing a bit of defensive shape." Tolo's return from an Achilles injury came too late to impact the final minutes.
The Spirit will host the Canberra Capitals at Red Energy Arena this Saturday night, with reigning MVP Izzy Borlase expected to return in coming rounds.
