Grieving Son Walks in on 'Depraved' Lorry Driver Having Sex with His Mum’s Body
The judge said Sellars planned the attack and imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order and 10 years on the sex offenders register.
On Friday, 62-year-old Stephen Sellars of Hibaldstow, North Lincolnshire, was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Hull Crown Court after pleading guilty to sexual penetration of a corpse.
The victim's son and nephew discovered Sellars inside the home where he had bolted a gate and drawn curtains; Prosecutor Rachel Scott asserted these actions demonstrated "some degree of planning" before the assault.
Judge John Thackray KC noted that legislation amended September 29 now allows seven-year sentences, but he was limited to 16 months, calling the incident a "clearly planned attack" that left the son feeling "numb and betrayed."
The victim's son stated in court the incident had a "massive impact" and that "nothing could ever justify it"; Sellars received a five-year sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender for 10 years.
Defense lawyer Ben Donnell argued Sellars, an HGV driver with 25 years of employment, had no prior sexual convictions; Sellars admitted he was "smashed" on drugs, calling his actions a "new low" attributed to drug use.
