Glen Powell to Star as Lou Gehrig in New Film Directed by Richard Linklater

- Actor Glen Powell will portray baseball legend Lou Gehrig in an untitled Universal biopic directed by Richard Linklater. The project reunites the pair after their 2016 college baseball comedy Everybody Wants Some.
- The Gehrig story has been dramatized only once before, in the 1942 film The Pride starring Gary Cooper. Linklater and Powell revisit the Hall of Famer who played his entire 17-year career with the New York Yankees.
- Known as 'The Iron Horse,' Gehrig played in a record 2,130 consecutive games before his 1939 diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis . The seven-time All-Star won six World Series titles and two MVP awards during his historic tenure.
- Saturday Night Live veteran Simon Rich is writing the screenplay, while Lorne Michaels will produce through Broadway Video. Powell and Dan Cohen are producing for Barnstorm, with Linklater in talks to produce through Detour Filmproduction.
- Powell intends to take a break from filming after working nonstop during the past year. No production start date has been set for the Universal project.
