Germany's Solar Industry Faces Cloudy Future As Demand Slows
Germany’s solar boom has slowed to a trickle and turned into a bust for domestic manufacturers of solar panels and PV system installers and providers. Following a breakneck surge in solar power installations in 2022 and 2023 at the peak of the energy crisis, German solar capacity additions slowed toward the end of 2024, with residential installations bearing the brunt of the decline in demand. Households were more eager to have rooftop or ‘b…
The expansion of photovoltaics in Germany is continuing to progress. Last year alone, an installed capacity of 17 gigawatts (GW) was added, ten percent more than in 2023, according to the German Solar Industry Association. The total installed capacity was thus more than 100 gigawatts for the first time at the turn of the year. Around 14 percent of Germany's electricity consumption could thus be covered by solar energy.
