Gemini Omni Can Now Extend Videos to 40 Seconds and Upscale Them to 4K

The model can extend clips in 10-second chunks, and Google says low-resolution previews are up to 60% faster and cost about one-third as much.

  • On Thursday, Google released Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, a generative video model enabling creators to extend scenes up to 40 seconds and specify start and end frames for sequences.
  • Unlike previous versions that analyzed only the final second, Gemini now can assess up to 10 seconds of previous footage for context. This enhancement helps maintain character and environment consistency across extended sequences.
  • Developers can utilize a 360p generation mode for rapid prototyping, which Google claims is up to 60% faster than 720p output at one-third the cost. Once satisfied, creators can upscale to 4K resolution.
  • The model is available to developers via the Gemini API and to enterprises through the Agent Platform. Companies including Adobe, Figma Weave, GMI Cloud, and Runway are already integrating the technology.
  • Global access for Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers is planned through Google Flow, with scene extension capability coming directly to the Gemini app. This rollout simplifies access for consumers without API tools.
