The consolidated data from Citepa, the body responsible for carrying out the annual inventory, shows a drop of 5.8% last year compared to 2022, the Prime Minister welcomed this Wednesday, May 22. This is more than double the decline observed in 2022.

France's climate change monitoring association Citepa had predicted in March a yearly fall of 4.8%. Despite the government's bullishness, several environmental groups have claimed such drops are largely cyclical.
France intends to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% (-55% net) by 2030 in order to comply with European commitments, which means considerably increasing the pace of decreases.
