The Syrian Foreign Minister asserts that his government is "actively working" toward a diplomatic solution to the Israeli incursions into southern Syria. These incursions have increased in recent months: "65 in July alone, and 52 in the first 18 days of August," stated Assaad Al Chibani. House searches and arrests of residents have become commonplace for villagers near the border since the fall of the former regime.
Damascus is still committed to a negotiated settlement of the conflict with Israel, despite the continued Israeli military action on Syrian territory, and has declared the Syrian Foreign Ministry's head, Asaad Al-Shibani. "Despite these difficulties, we remain committed to a diplomatic solution, and we are working seriously to achieve it," Al-Arabiyah is quoted as Al-Shibani.
