FlyDubai Passenger Who Survived Hijacking Attempt Speaks Out
Joseph Italie said passengers subdued the attacker after the cockpit stabbing and 17,000-foot plunge, and he called the survival a miracle.
On Thursday in Newington, passenger Italie recounted Flight FZ1073, where his family survived a plunge of about 17,000 feet during a cockpit attack at the Seacoast Chabad Jewish Center.
A co-pilot allegedly stabbed the captain and attempted to hijack the Israel-bound Flydubai flight, causing passengers to initially suspect a technical malfunction rather than an attack.
Several passengers intervened to subdue the attacker, and the plane jolted upward before stabilizing and landing safely in Saudi Arabia following the mid-air struggle.
Italie described surviving the flight as a "miracle," recounting how his wife prayed to God to remain alive after the plane touched down safely.
In the weeks since the alleged hijacking, Italie has traveled globally sharing his story, finding that recounting those moments aids his healing process and helps him cope.
