Flight from Manchester Airport triggers emergency alert mid-air
The aircraft landed safely after squawking 7700, and the emergency was later resolved, flight tracking accounts said.
A Boeing 737-300 registered G-SWRD declared a general emergency shortly after departing Manchester Airport, landing safely at Birmingham Airport at 3.32 pm local time.
Operated by BASE Regional Airlines as flight BRO179P, the aircraft was conducting a positioning service rather than a scheduled passenger flight, lasting approximately half an hour.
Social media account SpotterIntel reported that the 7700 squawk code was active shortly after departure, which pilots use to signal a general emergency to air traffic controllers.
Descending below 10,000ft, the aircraft continued toward Birmingham as flight tracking enthusiasts monitored the situation, with a subsequent update confirming the emergency had been resolved.
BASE Regional Airlines has not yet provided details regarding the incident, and the specific reason for the emergency declaration remains unconfirmed for the Boeing aircraft.
