Man Wanted in Deadly Stabbing of Ex-Girlfriend in Columbia Arrested in India After Manhunt

Howard County police said they found Nikitha Rao Godishala dead with stab wounds and later charged her ex-boyfriend with murder after he fled to India.

  • On Thursday, Howard County Police confirmed that Arjun Sharma was arrested in Agra, India, ending an eight-month search for the suspect in the death of 27-year-old Nikitha Godishala.
  • Investigators believe Sharma killed Godishala on December 31 around 7 p.m., shortly after which he reported her missing to police on January 2 before fleeing to India.
  • After Godishala's father, Anand Godishala, filed a cheating case, authorities issued a non-bailable warrant that Inspector B Ravi Kiran of the Lalaguda Police Station said ensured the search continued.
  • Sharma has been produced before the Patiala House Court in New Delhi, and the United States has formally requested his return under the India-US Extradition Treaty.
  • Howard County Police spokesperson Seth Hoffman stated the motive remains unknown, noting, "It's possible that one motivation was to report it to seem like he wasn't involved, but really, we don't know.
