Thanks to the bitter experience that the countries of Central and Eastern Europe have with the Soviet Union, the European Union has learned a lot about the behaviour patterns of both the Kremlin and Russian President Vladimir Putin and has become more cautious, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in an interview on the 20th anniversary of the European Union’s greatest enlargement to date.
