Durham police officer suspended without pay after being charged in child sexual exploitation investigation
The officer faces seven charges, and Durham police say he has been suspended without pay while the case moves through court.
On Sunday, Ontario Provincial Police charged Durham Regional Police Constable Tre Hamad, 31, of Ajax with multiple offences related to child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
Northumberland OPP initiated the investigation on Oct. 21 after receiving a report concerning the sexual exploitation of a young person, then executed search warrants in Ajax and Whitby with assistance from the Durham police Digital Forensics Unit.
Hamad faces charges including possession of child sexual abuse material, two counts of luring a person under 16 by telecommunication, indecent exposure, and making sexually explicit material available to persons under 18.
Durham Regional Police suspended Hamad without pay, stating they take the allegations "very seriously." He remains held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact Northumberland OPP at 1-888-310-1122, while those affected can access support through Peterborough Northumberland Victim Services.
