Honor Dolly Parton and put a book in a local child's hands
The United Way of Bemidji Area operates Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in Beltrami, Hubbard and Clearwater Counties. Children from birth to age 5 receive a carefully chosen book, addressed to them, at their home, free, every month. A total of 705 local children are currently enrolled.
The initiative, which takes the form of books sent free of charge each month to children from birth to age five, has grown considerably in the United States, as well as in Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland. The program reached kids six and under in smaller communities across the country. In Waterloo region, Guelph and Six Nations of the Grand River, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library has so far mailed out books hundreds of kids this year alone.
