Deepseek raises $15 billion in challenge to leading US labs, Bloomberg News reports
Tencent and CATL were among the biggest investors as DeepSeek expanded spending on data centers and open-source models, Bloomberg News reported.
On Thursday, October 22, 2026, Chinese AI startup DeepSeek raised about 100 billion yuan in its latest fundraising round, Bloomberg News reported citing people familiar with the matter.
Previously, the firm lacked the financial firepower of Silicon Valley frontier labs, but this capital infusion helps moderate a funding gap that has persisted since DeepSeek's 2025 market disruption.
Battery pioneer Contemporary Amperex Technology and WeChat-operator Tencent Holdings were among the biggest investors, with DeepSeek boosting its financing target from 50 billion yuan to 80 billion before reaching the final tally.
DeepSeek is using the funds to aggressively build data centers and develop open-source models for global deployment, intensifying pressure on domestic rivals like MiniMax Group while preparing for an initial public offering.
Artificial Analysis identified what has been called the "DeepSeek death zone," where competitors will struggle to survive unless they match the firm's performance or charge lower prices.
