Dave Dickenson to return as head coach and GM of the Calgary Stampeders
Dickenson gets another chance after Calgary missed the playoffs for the second time in three years, despite leading the Canadian Football League in scoring.
On Wednesday, Dave Dickenson will return as head coach and general manager of the Calgary Stampeders next season, a Stampeders official confirmed to The Canadian Press.
Calgary missed the playoffs for the second time in three years after Winnipeg rallied to defeat the Lions in the final week of the regular season, eliminating the Stampeders from playoff contention.
Dickenson, a former star quarterback, has served as head coach since 2016 and added general manager duties in 2023. The Stampeders reached the Grey Cup in his first three seasons, winning in 2018.
The Stampeders allowed 587 points, the second-most in the CFL, and posted a 4-5 record at McMahon Stadium despite finishing 9-9 overall.
Since Dickenson became general manager, the team has missed the postseason in two of the four seasons, marking a sharp decline from the 19-year playoff streak that ended in 2024.
