Connecticut police find decomposed body after standoff with man who shot at officers
On Dec. 2, 2025, Stamford police said a decomposed body was discovered inside the Oaklawn Avenue house after an hours-long standoff, and the occupant Jed Parkington, 63, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Eviction was slated for Tuesday after court records showed foreclosure and occupants received a notice to surrender possession in April at the Oaklawn Avenue house, Stamford, Conn.
The Stamford Police Hostage Negotiation Team arrived at 9:44 a.m. and the Special Response Team was called at 11:40 a.m., with drones used to assess Jed Parkington's condition as he fired multiple rounds, damaging a bearcat armored police vehicle.
Oaklawn Avenue between Dann Drive and Dartley Street will remain closed indefinitely while the Office of the Inspector General investigates the gunfire exchange and the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Division processes the scene, Mayor Caroline Simmons said.
Multiple municipal and county agencies provided mutual aid during the response, the Stamford Police Bomb Squad rendered the home safe, and detectives plan to interview Parkington's wife and family as processing continues.
