CMPD Officer Shot in West Charlotte; Suspect on the Run
The officer is in stable condition after the suspect fled, and investigators said the vehicle involved had recently been stolen.
- A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer was shot Wednesday morning while responding to a suspicious vehicle call in west Charlotte on Enderly Road, and the suspect remains at large.
- Police responded to a suspicious vehicle call around 12:23 a.m. involving two suspects, and investigators later discovered the vehicle had recently been stolen.
- An officer arrived five minutes later and encountered one of the suspects, who pulled a gun and fired, striking the officer. The officer did not fire back before the suspect fled.
- Emergency personnel rushed the injured officer to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Dilworth, where the officer is currently in stable condition.
- As standard procedure, the Internal Affairs Bureau is conducting a parallel investigation into the shooting. CMPD is asking anyone with information to contact the department.
