Citigroup economists described the inflation problem in Turkey as “structural” and predicted that the central bank would cut its policy rate by 100 basis points in October.
Following the decline in Turkey's annual inflation to 29.73% in September, Citi economists predict that inflation will end 2026 at 30%, and they expect the Central Bank to cut interest rates by 100 basis points at its meeting on October 22nd, bringing the year-end policy rate to 35%.
As annual inflation in Turkey recedes to below 30 percent after 5 years, a remarkable forecast from Citi came in. While the Bank expects inflation to finish the year at 30 percent again, it predicted a 100 basis point rate cut at the CMB meeting on October 22. 🚆
Citigroup economists expect inflation in Türkiye to end the year at around 30 percent. This rate is slightly below the 30.9 percent year-end inflation level for 2025.
