Ciao, San Siro! AC Milan and Inter announce record-breaking €650m naming rights deal for new Generali Stadium
On Thursday, Milan and Inter announced a naming rights agreement with Italian insurance company Generali for their new stadium, set to open in 2031. Sources confirmed the deal is worth $725 million over 20 years.
Italy faces pressure to upgrade stadiums for the 2032 European Championship, as the original 1926 San Siro lacks modern facilities. The clubs purchased the land for $230 million last November to replace the aging venue.
Architects Lord Norman Foster and David Manica designed the 71,500-seat venue, drawing inspiration from the "intricate craftsmanship of the Duomo di Milano." Two seating tiers will form a 360-degree bowl with inclinations of up to 37 degrees.
RedBird Capital Partners and Oaktree are driving the project, which includes a broader urban regeneration plan featuring public spaces, green areas, and retail outlets alongside the new stadium.
The naming rights deal surpasses a $700 million agreement signed in 2021 when Crypto.com renamed the Los Angeles home of the Lakers, Kings, and Sparks. Construction is expected to begin in 2028.
The images from the new stadium that is expected to replace the existing San Siro in a project that will cost 1.2 billion euros and will open its gates in the 2031/2032 season are impressive.
The project even includes photovoltaic panels. But the demolition of the Meazza divides fans and politics. The first game is scheduled in 2031-32. The article Nuovo San Siro, this is what the Inter and Milan stadium will look like: 71,500 seats, steep curves and led facade comes from La Verità.
