Report: 'Real chance' Tyquan Thornton returns for possible Chiefs playoff run
Tyquan Thornton is expected to miss 12 to 16 weeks after surgery on a dislocated left ankle, but a late-season return remains possible, ESPN reported.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton suffered a dislocated ankle late in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and will undergo surgery this week, facing a 12 to 16-week recovery timeline.
The injury occurred after Thornton made a key 55-yard catch in the fourth quarter, capping his career-best performance with 111 yards and two touchdowns before he exited Allegiant Stadium on crutches.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes called Thornton "one of the best teammates" he has ever had, while reports suggest the Chiefs may pursue free agent wide receiver Tyreek Hill to address the offensive void.
Fellow wide receiver Rashee Rice also exited Sunday's win early with a right hamstring injury after a 7-yard catch, and head coach Andy Reid held him out as a precaution for the remainder of the game.
Sports doctor David Chao confirmed surgery is set for "within the week," and NFL Network reports a "real chance" at a late-season or playoff return for the 26-year-old receiver despite the lengthy recovery.
