Buckeye Health Plan Partners with National Council on Independent Living to Improve Healthcare Accessibility for People with Disabilities

On Feb. 24, 2026, Buckeye Health Plan awarded $141,000 to six Ohio healthcare providers through NCIL's Barrier Removal Fund, part of the Provider Accessibility Initiative.
The Barrier Removal Fund invites providers to submit projects that remove architectural and programmatic barriers as part of the Provider Accessibility Initiative.
The six grantees include Clear Minds Coaching & Counseling; Mercer Health Medical Group; McMichael Chiropractic Clinic; Athens City-County Health Department; Little Flower Family Practice; and Lower Lights Christian Health Center, which will use awards for accessible equipment and ADA improvements.
The program aims to increase providers meeting state and federal disability access standards, as Jenny Sichel said, 'Physical barriers and accessibility at a doctor's office can be a serious obstacle that often prevents patients from receiving appropriate care for their health conditions.'
Buckeye Health Plan, a Centene Corporation subsidiary, has been dedicated since 2004 to improving Ohioans' health and said 'This partnership furthers Buckeye's commitment to providing access to quality healthcare to patients with disabilities, their companions and care providers'.
