Brett Lindstrom files to run for Nebraska governor under America First Party
Lindstrom says Nebraska needs another choice after his earlier nonpartisan bid fell short and he now needs 25 party-member signatures to qualify.
- On Tuesday, former State Sen. Brett Lindstrom filed to run for Nebraska governor under the newly certified America First Party, reviving his campaign after his initial nonpartisan petition effort fell short earlier this year.
- After election officials disqualified his previous nonpartisan bid for insufficient valid signatures, Lindstrom sought a "pirate ship" to revive his candidacy, having submitted 5,765 signatures against the 4,000 required.
- To qualify for the America First Party ticket, Lindstrom needed only 25 valid signatures from new party members and filed alongside running mate Mike Picard of Omaha, a Navy veteran.
- Spokespersons for Gov. Jim Pillen and Democratic nominee Lynne Walz offered no immediate comment Thursday evening, though Lindstrom would join them and Legal Marijuana NOW candidate Rick Beard on the November 3 ballot.
- Lindstrom frames his platform under the "Nebraska Doctrine," addressing property taxes, housing, and economic development as voters prepare to decide the gubernatorial race on November 3.
