Public Health Alert: Pizza Sold at Walmart and Aldi Recalled for Salmonella Risks

- The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert yesterday for meat and poultry products sold at Aldi and Walmart, citing potential Salmonella contamination from recalled dry milk powder ingredients.
- Officials discovered the risk after the Food and Drug Administration notified FSIS that multiple establishments received FDA-regulated ingredients formulated with recalled dry milk powder; all implicated items were produced between Feb. 17 and Feb. 26.
- Recalled items include Mama Cozzi's Biscuit Crust Sausage & Cheese Breakfast Pizza and other breakfast pizzas sold at Aldi and Walmart. Consumers should not eat these products and must return or discard them immediately.
- Consumption of contaminated food can cause salmonellosis, with symptoms including fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea appearing within six hours to six days. Most people recover without treatment within four to seven days.
- Individuals with food safety questions can contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline . Consumers may also report problems through the Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System or contact Patricia Jones, Aldi Inc., at 630-761-2380.
