Bo Bichette Makes a Major Decision on His Future
The 28-year-old infielder chose to remain with the team to pursue a performance rebound after signing a three-year, $126 million contract in early 2026.
On Thursday, New York Mets infielder Bo Bichette exercised his $42 million player option for 2027, according to reporting by Will Sammon of The Athletic.
Bichette signed a three-year, $126 million contract with the Mets in January 2026, which included player opt-outs after each of the first two seasons.
Playing a career-high 160 games, the 28-year-old Bichette hit.260 with 18 home runs and 78 RBIs while adjusting to third base because Francisco Lindor is entrenched at shortstop in Queens.
With a possible MLB lockout looming, Bichette secured guaranteed money rather than risk free agency, staying with a team that went 74-88 with a $346.8 million payroll and missed the playoffs.
Bichette retains another player option worth $42 million for 2028, as the Mets and their infielder look for a bounce-back campaign following a disappointing 2026 season.
