Bemidji State's annual Merit Badge Day assists Girl Scouts in earning 6 new badges

On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Bemidji State University hosted its 7th annual Merit Badge Day at Hagg-Sauer Hall, where around 35 Daisy and Brownie scouts from the Lakes and Pines region earned six badges.
BSU professor Bob Quandt founded the event to increase university awareness, establishing a staple campus activity that missed only 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Participants rotated through six classrooms to complete requirements for badges including democracy, first aid, and becoming "Home scientists," while crafting fairy garden homes.
Parent volunteer Jodi Sandmeyer noted the event helps scouts explore college campuses, remarking, "This is their opportunity to shine," as young participants advance through their ranks.
The Sandmeyer family will use proceeds from the event to attend the 58th Girl Scouts National Council Session in Washington, D.C., this July.
