B.C. Foster Care Student Earns $85K in Scholarships
Perreault applied for more than 400 scholarships and built a website listing over 70 options for foster care youth.
- Surrey graduate Perreault is heading to UBC in September to pursue nursing after earning $85,000 in scholarships and bursary funding through persistent applications.
- Rather than allowing challenges to define her, Perreault, who is Red River and has ADHD, transformed her foster care experience since age four-and-a-half into advocacy.
- For her Grade 12 capstone project, Perreault built a website identifying more than 70 scholarships for foster youth after applying for more than 400 awards herself.
- Perreault met with Jodie Wickens, B.C.'s Minister of Children and Family Development, to advocate for increased financial support for youth aging out of foster care.
- This summer, Perreault organized a fundraiser that assembled more than 90 backpacks for the Surrey School District, though she maintains no plans to enter politics.
