- On Friday, Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd agreed to a five-year contract extension keeping him with the Wildcats through the 2031 season, pending approval by the Arizona Board of Regents.
- Lloyd officially withdrew his name from North Carolina's coaching search after being asked about the vacancy multiple times in recent days, stating he remained committed to Arizona.
- The deal makes Lloyd one of the five highest-paid coaches at $7.5 million per year, includes a "huge bump" in his staff salary pool, and requires him to report directly to Arizona President Suresh Garimella.
- "Tommy Lloyd is the best coach in college basketball," said Arizona Athletic Director Desiree Reed-Francois, citing his 148-35 record. The Wildcats finished 36-2 this season, winning both Big 12 titles.
- North Carolina will now shift its search toward Michigan coach Dusty May and Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan. Top-seeded Arizona faces Michigan in Saturday's national semifinals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
