Apple Launches M6 MacBook Pro and iMac, Pitches Faster on-Device AI
On Tuesday, Apple announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring the 12-core M6 chip, which previously debuted in the Mac mini this summer, focusing on performance and AI capabilities.
The M6 chip delivers up to 30% faster graphics and 25% faster AI workloads than M5-equipped models, with configurations starting at 16GB of unified memory and up to 32GB available.
Apple claims the laptop achieves 24 hours of battery life—the longest in any Mac to date—while including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and a Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness.
Pre-Orders begin Wednesday, October 28, at $1,999, with retail availability November 6; Shelly Goldberg, Apple's vice president of Hardware Engineering, called it a "fantastic combination of performance, capability, and value."
The exterior design remains unchanged, though customers can opt for a $150 nano-texture display; meanwhile, the 16-inch MacBook Pro retains older M5 silicon, leaving the update focused on internal processing power.
