Ohio Man Texted 'Howler Is Back' Before He Was Shot at Puerto Rico Camp
Puerto Rican police have no suspects, and Wilkin’s friends are raising money for a private investigator as they seek answers in the killing.
On July 10, 2026, Wilmington native Tyler Wilkin was found shot to death at Playa in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, during a camping trip just five minutes from his campsite.
Before his death, Wilkin messaged a friend that someone he called "the howler" was back, then sent a final text two hours later stating, "Oh, this guy is getting rowdy lol."
According to Telemundo Puerto Rico, police have no suspects in the killing, though Wilkin frequently camped at Selva after moving to Puerto Rico in January 2024.
Friends and family set up a GoFundMe to hire a private investigator citing insufficient information from authorities, while Fox19 contacted the Ohio Attorney General and Office on Tuesday without response.
Wilkin's girlfriend, Iva, and friends are pleading for justice, with Iva stating he deserves answers as they urge anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation.
