Russian strikes hit key power plant in Kyiv, Zelensky says

The strikes hit all three of Kyiv’s combined heat and power plants and left 600,000 people without electricity, officials said.

  • On Wednesday, Russian missile and drone strikes killed three people in Kyiv and left at least 600,000 without power. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called the attack "ostentatious disrespect" to President Donald Trump's peace effort.
  • President Trump recently lifted sanctions on Russian diesel to lower fuel prices, claiming both sides agreed to halt energy strikes, though Moscow and Kyiv have not confirmed this agreement.
  • Russia damaged 30 energy facilities, including four power plants in and around Kyiv and two in Kharkiv. Ukraine downed only four of 39 missiles, reflecting weakened air defenses.
  • Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi reported that state railway facilities in five regions were also targeted as Russia intensifies assaults ahead of winter to cause widespread power outages.
  • Amid more than four and a half years of bombardment, Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian oil refineries. Sources say the United States threatened to cut intelligence support unless these attacks cease.
