Auburn Will Be without Standout Linebacker Xavier Atkins Against No. 1 Georgia
Auburn will rely more on Bryce Deas and Elijah Melendez after Atkins, the team’s second-leading tackler, was ruled out for Saturday’s game.
On Monday, Auburn head coach Alex Golesh announced that linebacker Xavier Atkins will not travel to Athens, Georgia, for Saturday's game against top-ranked Georgia at Sanford Stadium.
Golesh declined to provide specific reasons for the absence, stating the matter would be kept "in-house" and that he would revisit Atkins' status early next week.
The former All-SEC pick recorded 37 tackles and three sacks across five games this season, building on a standout 2025 campaign when he led the Tigers with 84 tackles and nine sacks.
Without Atkins, sophomore Bryce Deas is expected to take on a larger defensive role alongside Elijah Melendez to address the linebacker gap.
The Tigers face the Bulldogs at Sanford Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN, with Atkins' status to be revisited early next week.
