What Albertans Need to Know About Voting in the Referendum
Ballots ask voters about separation, immigration and provincial control, with questions on citizenship proof, funding rules and constitutional changes, Elections Alberta said.
Alberta voters head to over 1,400 polling stations on Monday to answer 10 questions on the Alberta Referendum covering immigration policy, constitutional reform, and whether to separate from Canada.
To participate, residents must be Canadian citizens at least 18 years old and provide acceptable identification; Elections Alberta lists 50 forms of ID to confirm identity and residency.
Officials provide 10 distinct, color-coded ballots for voters, who may mark some or all of them; the separation Question, Question 10, is counted first to ensure accuracy.
Early results will be released after 8 p.m. on Monday, with the final count completed by hand within 48 hours; results for the other nine questions should be announced by Wednesday.
Elections Alberta officials anticipate a record turnout of between 80 and 85 per cent of Alberta's nearly 3 million electors, reflecting the significance of the 10 questions posed to citizens.
