Academy Software Foundation Welcomes CIQ, Evercast, and Rochester Institute of Technology as New Members
CIQ, Evercast and Rochester Institute of Technology joined as ASWF members to expand engineering support, real-time review tools and open source training.
- On Friday, July 17, the Academy Software Foundation announced three new members: CIQ as a Premier Member, Evercast as a General Member, and Rochester Institute of Technology as an Associate Member.
- The ASWF serves as the leading home for open source software in motion pictures and animation, currently managing 22 projects including ACES, MaterialX, OpenEXR, and OpenVDB.
- Executive Director David Morin said the new members bring expertise in scaling render farms and real-time review tools, with opportunities to contribute to technical working groups and shape the ASWF's direction.
- CIQ President Bjorn Hovland said the foundation matters "more than ever" as AI transforms production pipelines, while Evercast VP of Engineering Jose Aguerre emphasized open codebases and diverse teams strengthen the industry.
- Open Source Days takes place July 19–20 at the J.W. Marriott L.A. Live, coinciding with SIGGRAPH 2026, featuring DreamWorks Animation CTO Bill Ballew's keynote on "How to Train Your Renderer: MoonRay's Journey from DreamWorks' Dragons to the ASWF.
