Russia isolates nearly 200 people after reported plague death at Irkutsk lab
Officials placed nearly 200 contacts under observation as Russia’s public health watchdog said the cause was pneumonia of unknown origin.

- Alexei Tsydenov, head of the neighboring Buryatia republic, confirmed the infection was isolated and stated no plague outbreaks exist in his region, including areas bordering Mongolia.
- Irkutsk region Governor Igor Kobzev urged public calm after meeting with Rospotrebnadzor chief Anna Popova to coordinate emergency containment measures. At least 197 people were placed under medical observation.
