A golden anniversary beneath McDonald's iconic golden arches? One couple is 'lovin' it'
Mike and Susan Burks returned to the restaurant where they ate often early in marriage and marked the milestone with Big Macs, fries and Coke.
Mike and Susan Burks celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the McDonald's on Northside Parkway in Atlanta, Georgia, returning to the restaurant that shaped their early years together.
Living in Vinings during their early marriage, the couple frequented the restaurant out of necessity. "But out of necessity, we came down here twice a day," Susan Burks said.
While enjoying their usual Big Mac and Coke, Mike Burks joked about their early life. "When we first got married, we lived around the corner in Vinings, and Susan didn't cook much," he recalled.
Mike Burks met Susan at a bar on Roswell Road at 2:30 in the morning in 1975. He said he knew almost immediately that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
Reflecting on their milestone, the Burks offered their secret to lasting marriage: "Don't give up, and lots of laughs through the tears." Their advice encapsulates five decades of commitment.
