99 Ranch Market in Westwood Reopens After Deadly Crash that Killed 3 People, Injured 6 Others

The market reopened after a 92-year-old driver lost control, killing three and injuring six, including two critically, officials said.

  • At 12:11 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, a sedan lost control and crashed into the 99 Ranch Market, Westwood store, killing three people.
  • The driver, a 92-year-old woman, crashed a Mercedes into the store front, and authorities described the collision as a tragic accident with no arrest after a scene interview.
  • The Los Angeles County medical examiner identified the victims as Zih Dao, 28; Deris Renjo, 42; and Leonel Mateo, 52, with two employees of 99 Ranch Market among them, and at least six others injured.
  • On Wednesday the market reopened at 8 a.m. for the first time since last week's tragedy, with plywood still covering part of the storefront and a growing memorial outside the Westwood market.
  • LADBS inspectors found the building yellow-tagged for damage but without structural instability, and store officials said they consulted 'the appropriate agencies' before reopening, according to a statement quoted by KTLA5.
