7-Year-Old Stabbed to Death on Chicago’s South Side: Police
Bystanders detained the suspect, and police said the girl was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A 7-year-old girl died after being stabbed multiple times in the back near the 8600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday.
Witnesses reported the woman approached the child while she was walking and 'displayed a sharp object' before the assault, prompting bystanders to intervene immediately.
The girl was transported to Comer Children Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, while the woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the scuffle and was placed into police custody.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating the incident, though authorities have not announced charges or confirmed whether the woman and child knew each other or what prompted the attack.
An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday to determine the official cause of death, while the woman remains in police custody as detectives continue their investigation.
