August 31st marks 50 years since Jack Bogle launched the world's first widely available index fund. The idea deserves to be celebrated. But it was based on others setting the prices, and there are fewer of them every year. Few people save in mutual funds like the Swedes, and more and more are turning to index and index-like management, writes Mats Langensjö, management consultant Arkwright.
