2 Southern States Dominate U-Haul Report Analyzing Where People Are Moving
- U-Haul's 2025 "Growth Index" named Dallas-Fort-Worth-Arlington the No. 1 growth metro, and Texas the top in-migration state, the company said.
- Suburban McKinney, Plano, Frisco and Denton drove much of the metro's expansion, with U-Haul officials citing lower cost of living, job growth and expanding infrastructure in DFW.
- The Growth Index ranks metros by net one-way U-Haul transactions, drawing on more than 2.5 million customers from over 24,000 rental locations throughout the year.
- Texas reclaimed the top growth-state spot for the seventh time in a decade, while eight of the top 10 in-migration states were in the Southern region and Florida returned to No. 2 with arrivals making up 50.6% of one-way traffic, U-Haul said.
- Census figures show the South added nearly 1.8 million people, indicating the region's larger population gains align with U-Haul Growth Index migration signals and the U.S. population on Jan. 1, 2026 reached 343,049,952.
