PARIS: A federation of European textile associations called on Tuesday (Sep 2) for an import fee of 10 euros (US$11.60) on fashion imports, the latest effort to stem the flood of ultra-cheap competition mainly from China.The plea by Euratex came after the EU imposed in July a three-euro duty on cheap parcels
The European textile industry is asking the European Commission to introduce a fee of 10 euros for small packages arriving in the European Union, and most of such shipments come from China.
At the same time, the organization believes that revenues from higher customs duties should be directed to strengthening customs controls, instead of becoming part of the general budget of the European Commission.
The European textile industry is demanding a 10 euro charge on orders from outside the EU, which is added to the Romanian tax of 25 lei and to the customs duty of 3 euro.
