Iran closes Strait of Hormuz again over continued US blockade of its ports, state media says

The speaker of Iran’s Parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Qalibaf, said Friday that Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz again amid the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports, contradicting President Trump, who said the strait was “open for business” earlier in the day.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Saturday that he said "directs the FDA to expedite their review of certain psychedelics already designated as breakthrough therapy drugs." "These treatments are currently in the advanced stages of clinical trials to ensure that they're both safe and effective for the American patients," he added.  The president said the executive order would implement "historic reforms to dramatically accelerate access to new medical research and treatments based on psychedelic drugs."

Trump announces reforms to accelerate access to psychedelic drug treatments

Since the start of its blockade of Iranian ports, U.S. Central Command says 23 vessels have complied with orders from American forces to turn around rather than cross its blockade line, up from a tally of 21 reported a day earlier. Centcom, which oversees U.S. forces in the Middle East, also released a photograph of the USS Canberra, a U.S. Navy warship designed to operate close to shore, which it said was patroling the Arabian Sea as part of the operation to block vessels leaving and entering Iranian ports. On Friday, President Trump said the naval blockade would remain “in full force and effect” until negotiations with Tehran are complete. In response, Iran's military said Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz would stay under its strict control until the U.S. lifts its blockade.
