Participation Atlas: Where children grow up well in Germany

Parents want the best conditions for their children. These maps show where the youngest are allowed to participate and participate – and where not.

No school leaving, no money, and no bus stop nearby: How much such problems accumulate for children and young people depends on the place of residence, says a study. The south of Germany stands out positively.

According to the researcher Rüdiger Maas, the relationship between children and sports clubs has changed considerably in recent years. One reason is that parents are becoming more and more involved – with consequences for children, trainers and club life.

Those who grow up in the Wesel district obviously have to struggle with many hurdles. In the participation atlas of the Wüstenrot Foundation we do not do very well - among other things in the case of child poverty.

One in five children in Germany grows up in poverty, and one in four in East Germany. Jörg Fischer from the Institute for Local Planning and Development talks about this before the Children's and Youth Aid Day 2025 in Leipzig.
