Drug-driver who left nurse with severe brain damage avoids jail

Daniel Petch, 28, was driving along Manchester Road in Altrincham. He hit 52-year-old Shakeel Sheikh, who had been out drinking with friends. It is unclear how Mr Sheikh came to be lying in the road, but Petch did not see him. After running him over Petch left the scene, before returning a short time later. He picked up some pieces of his car which had come off during the crash. About half an hour after the 3am crash, he eventually called the police.
