UK records highest May temperature since 2012 on hottest day of the year
Amber heat-health alerts cover five English regions as forecasters warn Monday could reach 33C and challenge the UK’s May record.
On Saturday, Frittenden, Kent recorded 30.5°C, the hottest temperature of the year, surpassing Friday's high of 28.4°C across England.
The UKHSA issued amber heat health alerts on Friday for parts of England, including London and the Midlands, as high pressure dominates the Bank Holiday weekend.
Inland areas like Newport and Brecon face highs of around 26°C, while coastal regions including Cardigan and Aberystwyth remain cooler at around 18°C.
Replacing earlier Yellow warnings, amber alerts remain in place until Wednesday as the UKHSA advises the public to apply sun cream during high-UV conditions.
Monday, May 25, could bring temperatures reaching 33°C in southern England, potentially breaking the 1944 May record of 32.8°C.
