Two people shot and wounded in an encounter with Secret Service near White House: Report
Secret Service agents investigated reports of shots fired as reporters were rushed inside and the White House briefly locked down.
On Saturday, two people were shot in an encounter with the Secret Service near the White House at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street Northwest, according to law enforcement.
Secret Service agents responded to a report of a person firing a weapon, rushing press corps members from the North Lawn into the briefing room while shouting 'get down' and warning of shots fired.
ABC News chief White House correspondent Selina Wang posted video capturing the moment, while FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the agency is supporting the Secret Service response on the ground.
Authorities lifted the lockdown just after 6:45 p.m. ET as the Secret Service continues investigating reports of gunfire at the intersection near the White House complex.
This incident follows a similar shooting less than a month ago when suspect Cole Tomas Allen allegedly sprinted through a security checkpoint with a shotgun, though he has pleaded not guilty to charges.
A large police force has been deployed around the White House in Washington following a report of a shooting in the vicinity. Journalists on the premises were ordered to seek cover and were taken to the press room. The White House was locked down for a short time.
