Netanyahu told Trump Israel will remain free to act against threats, Israeli source says
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stressed Israel's need for freedom to act in Lebanon amid US-Iran deal talks, which President Trump supported, according to an Israeli source.
On Saturday, President Donald Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about an emerging agreement between Washington and Iran, later writing on Truth Social that the conversation went "very well."
Washington and Iran have "largely negotiated" a peace deal brokered by Pakistan that aims to lift blockades and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping passage closed since the war began in February.
President Trump insists on the dismantling of Iran's nuclear program and removal of all enriched uranium, with plans for the stockpile to be negotiated within 30 to 60 days, according to an Israeli source.
Netanyahu emphasized that Israel will maintain freedom of action against threats in Lebanon, a principle Trump supported; Israeli politician Benny Gantz warned accepting a ceasefire would be a strategic mistake.
Trump wrote that final aspects of the Deal are being discussed and will be announced shortly, as the draft reportedly stipulates mutual pledges for the U.S. and Iran to avoid preemptive attacks.
The Israeli source stated that the President of the United States reiterated and supported "this principle"; on social media, Trump wrote that a call with the Israeli Prime Minister had gone "very well."
